HACC's Massage Therapy Student Studio welcomes you. By scheduling your massage with a student therapist, you grant them the opportunity to practice hands-on skills and prepare them for a successful new career.

About Our Studio:

Students enrolled in HACC’s Massage Therapy Program begin working with you in our studio when they are partially through the program and continue until they are ready to graduate. As they learn different techniques in class, our studio provides a chance for them to practice.

Initially, our students are practicing:
- Full-body Swedish Massage geared towards relaxation.
- Professionalism, communication and intake skills.
- Setting up safe, appropriate sessions in regards to client conditions.

As they enter the second-half of the program, they may also be practicing:
- Using different positioning for the massage - such as side-lying.
- Setting up sessions to allow more time with an area of restriction and to spend less time on areas which are not of concern to the receiver.
- Connective tissue - a modality that uses a slow pace and no lotion in order to hook into restricted tissue encouraging balance and freedom of movement in the body.
- Neuromuscular Therapy - a modality that targets trigger points and areas of tension using specific and sometimes deep pressure to loosen tissue - decreasing pain and restrictions.
- Client assessments such as postural, breath or range of motion assessments.
- Tracking client progress and outcomes.

Expectations of a student clinic:

- Please schedule with a professional if you would like a massage to be fully customized to your preferences or if your health conditions are beyond what the students have had an education in.  - Examples of health conditions beyond our student's scope of practice include many active cancers, recent hospitalizations, conditions which affect normal organ function, blood clots, systemic inflammation or infection, fever, many contagious conditions, and active pregnancy.

- In order for instructors to monitor students, clients will be massaged in private, but curtained off areas, not individual rooms - Please keep talking to a minimum during the massage, as other massage recipients can hear you and may be disrupted in their relaxation

- Students need a variety of practice and equal opportunities for practice. This means… - We can not guarantee that the person you schedule with will be who does the massage at your appointment. - You must feel comfortable seeing both male and female therapists - We ask that you schedule with a different therapist at each visit

- We rely on you for the student to have someone to practice with - Please provide a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel your appointment - Arrive 10 minutes early to allow for a proper intake and to ensure you receive the full session

- We ask for your feedback on the session - Expect to fill out a form on the student’s performance after the session. Students benefit from clear and direct feedback. If you can identify an area for the student to improve, please let them know. This will not affect their grade, it will help them learn and grow.

- We are only able to accept credit as payment in our clinic. Tipping students is not permitted to ensure fairness in the learning environment - If you are compelled to leave a tip, tips are collected at check out and go towards a fund which massage students with hardship can apply for.

This is parking area E-4. From there, take the sidewalk that's along the left side of the field and follow it until the John C. Hall Technology Building entrance is to your right. Enter and come to the second floor. Then make a left and another left. This is the massage therapy wing. You may have a seat in the hallway until your student therapist greets you. If you are handicapped or would like a security escort, you can call 717-780-2568 upon arrival. They will be happy to assist you in any way that you require.
